And now, in case you weren’t already tempted, the pièce de résistance.  Cyril Ritchard, perhaps most famous for playing ‘Captain Hook’ to Mary Martin’s ‘Peter Pan’, provided an introduction in the filmed version of this opera. It is absolutely delightful.  Here’s a snippet in which he describes the music you will hear on Sunday afternoon.  As an added bonus, Robert Willoughby Jones (who appeared in a couple of earlier blog entries) makes a cameo appearance!  In his words:

“In at least one scene, Sarah needed an extra visual element so I was asked to be a Knight in Shining Armor and given a suitable garb to wear. Nothing of my person was seen, not even my eyes. At some point that day, while in armor, I visited the men’s room. After washing my hands and putting the headpiece back on, I turned to leave. In the doorway appeared the redoubtable William Pierce, eternal voice of the Boston Symphony, surprised to see a knight. “Oh, Hello Bill,” I  intoned in my best knight imitation, knowing that, since we had never met, he wouldn’t have had a clue as to whom it was inside.”
.
I hope to see you on Sunday!
